SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH
alcohol and body

MODERATE ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION PROTECTS BONE

Regular limited alcohol consumption, especially among the over-sixties, gives increased bone density. Such the conclusion of researchers Tucker KL. e.a. from American Tufts University.

The effect was most marked for beer and wine. However, drinkers who drank more than the recommended quantity (two to three standard units per day) displayed loss of bone density. Among beer-drinking men and wine-drinking women in particular, the effect is appreciably greater than for the consumption of spirituous beverages. The researchers are unable to say which components cause the protective effect, so further research will be necessary.
